A Northwestern University researcher has found a key source of chronic pain appears to be an old memory trace that essentially gets stuck in the prefrontal cortex, the site of emotion and learning. The brain seems to remember the injury as if it were fresh and can't forget it.

The AMDA Foundation will hold a silent auction at the 2008 AMDA Annual Symposium, March 6 – 9th in Salt Lake City, Utah. The auction, "Art at The Wall", will showcase art from residents of long term care facilities as well as other artisans from around the country.

Evercare has partnered with the AMDA Foundation to develop a new awards program. Beginning in 2008, the AMDA Foundation and Evercare will present three awards at the national AMDA Symposium in Salt Lake City – the first annual AMDA Foundation/Evercare® Awards for “Improving the Quality of Life for Persons Living in Nursing Homes.”

The AMDA Foundation Research Network 7th Annual Fall Conference will be held November 17, 2007 from 5pm – 9:30pm at the Parc55 Hotel in San Francisco. The theme of the conference is “Continuity of Care across the Continuum”. The featured speaker will be Dan Osterweil, MD, MscEd, CMD, Clinical Professor of Medicine/Geriatric Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Late this spring, the AMDA Foundation submitted a grant proposal to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Foundation will be the subcontractor to the Center for Health Systems Research and Analysis (CHSRA) on the proposed project, entitled “Demonstrating the Feasibility and Value of Linking Data to Improve Nursing Home Quality.”
