Profiles in Research: Futures Alum Establishes His Legacy PDF Print E-mail

As a medical student, AMDA Foundation Futures program alumnus Steven Handler, MD, PhD, didn’t necessarily see a future in research. However, a strong mentor, a natural curiosity, and some unique opportunities helped guide his path. “The Foundation enabled me to do my first research project [on medication error reduction and reporting], and this opened the door to other resources,” Dr. Handler recalled. He added, “I enjoyed research and decided to pursue it; and I haven’t stopped since.”

In the Fall issue of AMDA Reports, Futures alum Milta Little, DO, shared her memories of her first AMDA annual meeting—Long Term Care Medicine—2010 in Long Beach, CA. She recalled, “I was surprised and impressed by how collegial meeting attendees were—everyone was happy to talk and share ideas with me. At the same time, there was such an interesting array of people….It was a large meeting, but it had the feel of a small, comfortable gathering.”
