Gwendolyn Maddox is the new Executive Director of the AMDA Foundation. Maddox, who began her position on July 11 (12), comes to the Foundation from the National Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program. She served as Executive Director of that organization for three years. Maddox also held positions--including Deputy Executive Vice President--with the National Kidney Foundation of the National Capital Area, where she initiated an innovative rehab and nutrition program for dialysis patients, developed educational and outreach programs, and led a broad range of successful fundraising activities.

During a recent meeting of the National Long Term Care Quality Coalition, leaders and stakeholders in the AMDA Foundation-Long Term Care Quality Improvement Partnership study funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) addressed the barriers to facility recruitment, data collection challenges, and lessons learned as the research project progresses.

Countdown to the 5th Annual Fall Research Network Meeting PDF Print E-mail

It's not too late to make plans for the Fall Foundation Long Term Care Research Network Conference in Chicago, November 11-13. This year's program not only will offer updates on new, completed, and ongoing studies; it also will present an abbreviated research primer addressing topics such as human subjects protection, inclusion/exclusion criteria, conducting a literature review, and survey instrument design.

Posters Make Debut at Fall Research Network Conference PDF Print E-mail

For the first time, research posters will be a part of the 2005 Research Network meeting in Chicago in November. The AMDA Foundation will select 4-6 posters to display during the course of the meeting. Attendees will have an opportunity to either discuss their ideas and suggestions with the presenter or submit comments anonymously--with the goal of strengthening the poster's impact and sharpening the individual's poster development skills.

Osteoporosis Study Suggests Gaps between Physician and Patient Attitudes PDF Print E-mail

A recent national survey from the Alliance for Aging Research shows that physicians and patients often have different beliefs and attitudes about osteoporosis treatment and compliance. The majority of women with osteoporosis surveyed (57%) said that desire to stay healthy and independent motivates them to take medication to treat the condition. However, most physicians (75%) believe the fear of fractures is the treatment motivator for patients.
