 Vol VII, Dec `03 The AMDA Foundation Seed Grant Awards is a newly funded program designed to foster and encourage long term care research proposals in identified therapeutic areas. Through this program, the Foundation will fund up to 3 proposals for small pilot research projects ($5000--$7000) in a single facility that can be completed within a 9-10 month period (so preliminary data can be presented at the fall 2004 Research Network Conference). In November 2004, one of the studies will be selected to be implemented across the Network the following year. |

 Vol VII, Dec `03 The Foundation offers AMDA members a number of grant, award, and program opportunities in conjunction with the Annual Symposium, but deadlines for eligibility are quickly approaching: Quality Improvement Award applications are due December 10, 2003; proposals for CNS Research Seed Grants must be received by December 14, 2003; and residents and fellows interested in LTC should apply for the Futures Program by January 7, 2004. |

 Vol VII, Dec `03 The AMDA Foundation/Pfizer Quality Improvement Awards support innovative projects in education, quality improvement, research and health literacy (communication and patient care) in long-term care and have provided nearly $100,000 in awards to date. Now in its third year, the program recognizes outstanding projects addressing facility staff education and training; training and mentoring related to continuous quality improvement in long term care; research on topics with generalizable results, such as unavoidable weight loss or critical factors with hearing aid use; and ways to enhance improvement of health care communications between long term care patients and their families, caregivers and/or surrogates. |

 Vol VII, Dec `03 The AHRQ-funded Long Term Care Quality Improvement Partnership evaluating pain and pressure ulcer CPG implementation will begin roll-out in 2004--starting with 3 Pennsylvania facilities in January 2004--and then another 4-6 facilities in that state beginning in March. |
