There have been a range of important Foundation developments since the last E-Report in early March, including identification of the Long Term Care Quality Improvement Partnership pilot-study states, announcement of the Foundation's new Research Network Seed Grants program, and selection of the 2003 Foundation award winners. Pilot States Announced for LTC Quality Improvement Partnership PDF Print E-mail

California, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Texas will pilot-test AMDA's We Care: Implementing Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) Tool Kit as part of the Foundation's nationwide Long Term Care Quality Improvement Partnership. The 4-year, $1.3 million Partnership, funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, is a collaboration among AMDA members, state Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) and national and state-based long term care professional and provider groups, designed to evaluate the impact of AMDA's pain and pressure ulcer CPGs on process of care and clinical outcomes including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services quality measures for nursing homes.

Foundation Research Network Grants Program Approved PDF Print E-mail

At its meeting in March, the AMDA Foundation Board of Directors approved the Research Network Seed Grants Program to foster new LTC research network proposals in identified therapeutic areas. The grants will provide seed funds for facility-based (or multi-facility) research and create additional opportunities for non-traditional funders to participate and support the Foundation's LTC Research Network.

Stone, Maddens, Gates and Bolhack Win Foundation Awards PDF Print E-mail

Dennis Stone, MD, CMD, has received the 2003 William Dodd Founder's Award for Distinguished Service at the Annual Symposium in March. Dr. Stone is an AMDA Past President, has served as Finance Chair and Treasurer, and has worked on national RU and CPT committees. The Dodd award recognizes significant contributions to building the organizational strength, image, and mission of AMDA.

Foundation Wall of Caring Exceeds Matching Grant PDF Print E-mail

Begun in 2001, the Wall of Caring is an Annual Symposium tradition that has grown in popularity. This year in Orlando, more than 75 Annual Symposium attendees contributed $19,500 plus in donations and provided inspirational and heartfelt tributes to their patients, families, and colleagues. The contributions, along with a $15,000 matching grant from Eli Lilly & Company, resulted in more than $34,000 to support Foundation programs.
