As Research Network Interim Director Jurgis Karuza, PhD, stated in the last issue of this e-Newsletter, the Foundation is working diligently on identifying the best possible candidates for a new Research Network director. Long-time director Larry Lawhorne, MD, left the position earlier this year. The Foundation encourages qualified and interested individuals to apply for the part-time position.

The director will be responsible for the overall research program strategy and coordination of research conducted within the AMDA Foundation and its Research Network. This requires excellence in all aspects of individual project management and execution, including study design, generation and analysis of outcomes data, and professional communication of results in support of the AMDA Foundation Research Network. The director should be highly experienced in the identification and development of observational data.

Other qualifications include:

  • Must be MD or PhD prepared or equivalent, Expertise in the healthcare continuum is preferred, Experience in long term care is highly preferred

  • Must be able to assist in the development of grants and manuscripts for the Foundation and research network proposals

  • Must have at least 5 years significant research project management experience and experience publishing outcomes research

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, federal grants development and processing is required

  • Experience in writing articles that can be published in peer-reviewed scientific journals

  • Must be able to travel as needed

The AMDA Foundation funds research studies, scholarships, educational programs, and special projects. In addition to supporting research and related activities, the AMDA Foundation also takes an active role in outreach to residents, fellows, and young career physicians with an interest in long term care. The Foundation is an independent, 501(c)3 not-for-profit, research arm of the American Medical Directors Association.
