Vol XXII, February `06 Most recently, the Washington County (Maryland) Arts Council contributed "Doves #6," a watercolor painting by Pamela Sarah Woods, an artist, teacher, and landscape designer. In her 70s now, Woods has been painting and teaching for many years and has exhibited nationwide. Until recently, she resided in Boonsboro, MD; last year, she relocated to Crete to be with her family. The Washington County Arts Council procured several of Woods' paintings prior to her move, including "Doves #6"--which is one of several paintings she created for a special Christmas show. "I know that Sarah would be pleased to know that one of her works is going to help promote long term care research," said Arts Council Executive Director Kevin Moriarty. "And our organization is pleased to be a part of this auction that honors aging artists." Additionally, a 55-year-old ceramic artist has donated a wall pocket that is part of a series on animals of Maryland and features the red fox. "I am committed to community service, and it is exciting to be part of an event of this caliber," she explained. In addition to these donations, the auction will feature the original works of long-term care residents, photographs by AMDA member Jeffrey Levine, MD, CMD, collectible pottery donated by a Baltimore nursing facility resident, a painting by television and radio personality Shadoe Stevens, and other pieces. A $25 (per person) ticket includes entry to the auction, two drink tickets, a sumptuous dessert reception, and live music and entertainment. All proceeds will go to further the Foundation's mission and fund long term care research. "Art of Caring: Works of heART" is generously sponsored by Evercare, AMGEN and Sanofi-Aventis. |
