Vol XXI, January `06 "I had decided to give some of these pieces to someone who could make good use of them. Then I heard about the Foundation art auction, and I knew I wanted to give something to this event," said Holland. His donated pieces have interesting stories behind them. One, for example, was a gift to Holland's mother from Diego Rivera, the renowned Mexican artist. The pottery work came out of Rivera's own personal collection. Another piece, also Mexican, is by Corky Gonzales, who studied under a master Japanese potter and did many beautiful pieces for hotels and restaurants in the U.S. and Mexico. "These pieces have brought me great joy. I hope that the new owners enjoy them and appreciate their beauty and history," Holland stated. Holland, a cancer survivor, noted that he would like the Foundation to fund some research about alternative cancer treatments. "I would like researchers to study options beyond chemotherapy and surgery," he noted. The art auction is set for Friday, March 17, in Dallas. In addition to Holland's pottery, the auction will feature the works of other nursing home residents and celebrities, as well as photos by Jeffrey Levine, MD, CMD and Mario Cornicchione, DO, CMD. Additionally, the AMDA Board of Directors has generously agreed to donate a one-year AMDA membership, complimentary registration to the 2007 Annual Symposium, a complete set of AMDA clinical practice guidelines, a pain management tool kit, and a pressure ulcer tool kit. Evercare and Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceuticals are sponsors of this event. |
