The AMDA Foundation Research Network is seeking members to be part of the Family Physicians Inquiries Network (FPIN) community. These individuals will have the opportunity to take a leadership role in determining what research questions the organization tackles and to be on the cutting edge of seeking answers. Twenty Research Network members already have signed up to participate in FPIN, and they are enthusiastic about what they can contribute and gain. As Cari Levy, MD, explained, "FPIN is an outstanding opportunity for a physician practicing in long term care to practice evidence-based medicine. Our participation will allow us to ask questions that physicians practicing in this setting face every day and to learn from evidence that applies uniquely to our patient population."

The FPIN is a national, non-profit consortium dedicated to using evidence and information technology to improve health care. The Research Network, in collaboration with the FPIN, is developing a long term care panel to generate questions that are common in this setting. Some of the questions may be answerable using existing evidence, but some may be used to generate potential topics for Research Network studies.

Those individuals who join will be asked to provide research questions and vote on what questions they think should be pursued. If they wish to get more involved, they can volunteer to conduct peer reviews, write clinical commentaries, and author pieces for the "Clinical Inquiries Series" published in American Family Physician or JAMDA.
