Vol XVII, Aug `05 It's not too late to make plans for the Fall Foundation Long Term Care Research Network Conference in Chicago, November 11-13. This year's program not only will offer updates on new, completed, and ongoing studies; it also will present an abbreviated research primer addressing topics such as human subjects protection, inclusion/exclusion criteria, conducting a literature review, and survey instrument design.
Participants at past meetings attest to the value of these programs and Research Network membership in general. Barbara Resnick, PhD, is a nurse practitioner and has been a Network member since its inception in 2000. She noted recently, "Because of the challenges in the long term care environment and its clinical demands, it is difficult to conduct research in your own facility. The Research Network enables me to coalesce with a national group of practitioners with similar concerns." She further explained, "It gives me a safe harbor to talk to others about our problems and what we are doing to solve them. The meetings help bring clinical practice alive by enabling clinicians from various disciplines to look at new interventions and ways to solve our most challenging problems."
Resnick talks more about how the Research Network meetings benefit participants in the August 2005 issue of Caring for the Ages, where she appears as a "guest star" in the Dr. Best ad and story on pages 11 and 12.
