Nursing facilities participating in the AMDA Foundation Long Term Care Quality Improvement (LTC-QI) Partnership are using a tool that actually represents the first wave in a new national focus on process measurement. The measure that facilities in the Partnership are using is similar to a computer application called the Nursing Facility Improvement and Feedback Tool (NFIFT) developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This tool will be installed on workstations in volunteer nursing facilities nationwide.

Using NHIFT, nursing facilities will abstract medical record data and track their process of care measures for five clinical topics: depression, immunization, pain, physical restraints, and pressure ulcers. One of the objectives of the Partnership was to create process measures reflecting the evidence-based care processes outlined in AMDA's pain management and pressure ulcer clinical practice guideline.

Now, Partnership-participating facilities can take pride in knowing that they are on the cutting-edge of process measures. They also enjoy other benefits such as training, mentorship, and educational materials

The LTC-QI Partnership is still recruiting facilities in California, Florida, Indiana, Ohio, and Texas. If you know of a facility that would be eligible and willing to participate, contact Erin Blume, Research Projects Coordinator at 410/992-3137 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
