The first annual AMDA Foundation Silent Art Auction is coming to Dallas. During the 2006 AMDA Annual Symposium, March 16 -19, 2006, the Foundation will host a silent art auction to further long term care research and facilitate the organization's effort to support quality studies that can be translated into practice. The works of "heART" up for auction are so named because of their origin. The auction will feature paintings and other original works of art created by nursing facility residents from across the nation. These individuals-their care, their well-being, and their quality of life--are at the "heart" of our research efforts. In addition to original pieces from the hands of long term care facility residents, the auction will feature photographs by the renowned photographer and AMDA member Jeffrey Levine, MD, CMD, whose photos have appeared in numerous art shows and graced the cover of the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association on several occasions. Levine will be present at the auction as well.

"It is only appropriate that our fundraising activities involve those individuals for whom we work every day," said AMDA Foundation Executive Director Lorraine Tarnove. She added, "Our residents are the heart and soul of our research and our efforts to maximize the quality of care and outcomes."

If you know of any residents who like to paint, draw, or create artwork of some kind or if your facility has a director of recreational therapy who might be able to help us identify art and artists for the auction, contact the AMDA Foundation at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or 410/992-3134. We will be actively soliciting pieces of "heart" between now and December 15, 2005 and welcome any donations.
