Vol XIV, May `05
The LTC-QI Partnership project continues to make progress. The following is a state-by-state update of recent activities:
  • Florida. After numerous delays caused by last year's hurricanes and the recovery from extensive damages, 10 facilities have been recruited for participation in the study. Three of these are being trained currently. The other seven facilities, which are part of the Delta corporation, have requested that they train and work through
  • Indiana. One facility has been enrolled, and training is scheduled for this June. Four facilities have met eligibility criteria and are completing the IRB and champion requirements. Two other facilities applied but were deemed ineligible. The Indiana state nurse coordinator and the research projects coordinator have stepped up recruitment efforts. They not only have sent out numerous letters but they also have been making follow-up calls to encourage facilities to participate.
  • Texas. To date, 20 facilities have completed the selection survey; and 12 have met the eligibility criteria. The state nurse coordinator will manage completion of the enrollment process for each facility, and training is scheduled for this summer.
  • California. This is another state that has experienced significant weather-related delays, as well as the illness of its state nurse coordinator. These issues have slowed recruitment. Nonetheless, three facilities have been deemed eligible and are completing their enrollment process. Their training will be held this summer.
  • Ohio. As we just hired our nurse coordinator in this state in February 2005, recruitment efforts are getting underway and picking up speed now. The research projects coordinator will assist in recruitment activities in the coming months.
  • Pennsylvania. All facilities are currently engaged in CPG implementation and will begin the second data collection in June.

If you know of facilities in any of these states that would be willing and able to participate in this study, contact Erin Blume, AMDA Foundation Clinical Projects Coordinator, for more information at 410/992-3137 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
