Lou Shornick, a resident at the Saint Catherine's Village in Madison, MS, has been taking photographs for 80 of his 88 years. As an octogenarian and self-described artist, he was pleased to donate one of his works to the AMDA Foundations Art of Caring — Works of he'ART' Art Auction, set for Saturday, March 31 in Hollywood, FL (during the AMDA Annual Symposium). For his donation, Lou chose "a photo of a magnolia blossom seed head printed on canvas." He added, "This is the state flower of Mississippi."

The artist's motivation for the donation was two-fold. As he explained, "I'm living in a retirement community; and whatever affects my retirement community and long term care in general affects me. Besides, I liked the idea of a wider exposure for my work," he explained.

The CCRC is home to Shornick, who was an aeronautical engineer and furniture manufacturer. He resides in an independent living unit, while his wife resides in the community's nursing facility. "Many of my photos are displayed throughout the community. I also take pictures of newcomers," he said.

Shornick has a sharp memory and can relate "where and when I took each picture and the details of how and why I chose the subject. This is as true of the ones I took yesterday as of the ones I took 30-40 years ago." If you'd like to view more of his photos, visit his Web site at www.loushornick.com.
