The AMDA Foundation Seed Grant Awards is a newly funded program designed to foster and encourage long term care research proposals in identified therapeutic areas. Through this program, the Foundation will fund up to 3 proposals for small pilot research projects ($5000--$7000) in a single facility that can be completed within a 9-10 month period (so preliminary data can be presented at the fall 2004 Research Network Conference). In November 2004, one of the studies will be selected to be implemented across the Network the following year.

The topic for the 2004 Seed Grant Awards program is Neurobehavioral/CNS Issues in Long Term Care. The deadline for submissions has been extended to December 14, 2003. Proposals should be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and cc'd to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Examples of potential LTC topics include but are not limited to the recognition, assessment and treatment of depressive symptoms in residents with stroke; treatment and monitoring of residents with chronic mental illness who transfer from residential settings to nursing facilities; assessment of and treatment approaches for behavioral disturbances associated with dementia; assessment and treatment of mood disorders in residents with Parkinson's Disease; the impact of mood or cognitive disorders on the treatment of comorbid medical conditions; the role of formal neuropsychological testing in the nursing facility setting; and approaches to managing disruptive behaviors associated with dementia, including resident-resident altercations. Studies should be conducted within a single facility but the results and methods must be generalizable.

Established or new members of the AMDA Foundation Long Term Care Research Network are invited to submit proposals. Collaborative proposals are welcomed, but the PI must be a member of the Research Network. The PI must submit a biosketch or CV along with the proposal.

The 2004 Research Network Seeds Grant Program is being supported through a grant from Eli Lilly and Company. For a copy of the RFP, click on the link below or visit www.amda.com/foundation.
