 Vol VII, Dec `03 The AMDA Foundation/Pfizer Quality Improvement Awards support innovative projects in education, quality improvement, research and health literacy (communication and patient care) in long-term care and have provided nearly $100,000 in awards to date. Now in its third year, the program recognizes outstanding projects addressing facility staff education and training; training and mentoring related to continuous quality improvement in long term care; research on topics with generalizable results, such as unavoidable weight loss or critical factors with hearing aid use; and ways to enhance improvement of health care communications between long term care patients and their families, caregivers and/or surrogates.
To be eligible for an award, projects much be conducted in a long term care setting, such as an assisted living facility, nursing facility, home care or hospice.The Foundation will accept applications for the 2004 awards through December 10, 2003. Up to 7 awards are made each year and posters detailing the award winners' projects will be displayed onsite at the Annual Symposium.
