The AMDA Foundation is pleased to announce its Third Annual Long Term Care Research Network Conference, Translating Research Into Practice, to be held November 7-9, 2003 at the Doubletree Guest Suites in Chicago, Illinois.

Our Keynote Event will be a panel discussion of established network and research directors. Panelists will discuss the early years of their respective Practice Based Research Network's development; initial research projects; establishing Internal Review Board relationships; and overcoming various barriers to network growth and enhancement. Faculty will include John Hickner, MD, Director, American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) National Research Network; James Galliher, PhD, Research Director, AAFP National Research Network; and Eric Slora, PhD, Director of Primary Care Research, American Academy of Pediatrics.

The goals of the Conference are to:
  • Discuss findings of research studies initiated in 2002 and 2003 and their implications for improving quality and safety in LTC;
  • Identify and discuss new research priorities for the Foundation's LTC Research Network;
  • Identify new principal investigators; and
  • Provide information on the Foundation's new Research Network Seed Grants Awards program.
In keeping with the highly popular format of previous Research Network meetings, the Conference is based on group participation and consensus-building. Through break-out sessions, participants identify issues and discuss research methodologies, and then return to the large group to disseminate their ideas.

AMDA members may join the Research Network by clicking the link at the end of this article. The Conference agenda and application are available online at www.amda.com/foundation and via the link at the bottom of this page.

This Conference is being partially supported by unrestricted grants from AstraZeneca, Novartis, and Pfizer, Inc. We also wish to thank Eli Lilly and Company for their support of the Research Network Seed Grants program.
