Vol V, May `03
At its meeting in March, the AMDA Foundation Board of Directors approved the Research Network Seed Grants Program to foster new LTC research network proposals in identified therapeutic areas. The grants will provide seed funds for facility-based (or multi-facility) research and create additional opportunities for non-traditional funders to participate and support the Foundation's LTC Research Network.

For the new program, the Foundation Board will identify 5 to 10 top therapeutic areas for research and seek grant support from funders based on mutual areas of interest. The awards will have a biennial cycle of implementation. In year 1, the Foundation will solicit and select 3 proposals to support small research projects (budgets of $5,000-$7,000) in a designated therapeutic area (e.g., pain). All 3 awardees will present study results at the fall Research Network conference. Then 1 of the 3 projects will be chosen to be extended to the entire Network (or a significant subset thereof) in year 2, and funded up to $25,000.
The program is expected to be launched in the fall of 2003. Details will be conveyed as they develop.
