Dennis Stone, MD, CMD, has received the 2003 William Dodd Founder's Award for Distinguished Service at the Annual Symposium in March. Dr. Stone is an AMDA Past President, has served as Finance Chair and Treasurer, and has worked on national RU and CPT committees. The Dodd award recognizes significant contributions to building the organizational strength, image, and mission of AMDA.

Michael Maddens, MD, CMD, was given the 2003 James Pattee Award for Excellence in Education. He has served on the AMDA Board of Directors, chaired the Clinical Practice Committee, participated in the Finance Committee, and has been an AMDA Core Curriculum faculty member. The Pattee award recognizes significant contributions to the educational goals of AMDA.

Researcher Donna Gates, EdD, MSPH, MN, RN, has received the Best JAMDA Contribution Award for 2002, for her article "Preventing Assaults by Nursing Home Residents: Nursing Assistants' Knowledge and Confidence-A Pilot Study," which appeared in the Nov./Dec. 2002 issue. Criteria for award selection includes innovation, potential for improving in nursing home and/or home care, and quality of research and/or writing. The JAMDA Best Contributor Award is supported by funding from Eli Lilly and Company.

Scott Bolhack, MD, CMD, was given the 2003 Howard Guterman Poster Award for the best Annual Symposium poster. He and co-investigators, Michael Smith, MD and Shirley Grant, LPN, received the prize for their contribution entitled "Utilizing AMDA Clinical PracticeGuidelines: 3 CPGs Selected for Development of Implementation Packets."
