The AMDA Foundation and Pfizer are pleased to announce the winners of the 2003 Quality Improvement Awards, a program created to support innovative projects focused on facility staff education, quality improvement, intervention and treatment research, and health literacy.

The 2003 awardees are:

  • Howard Tuch, MD, CMD: Expecting Death in the Nursing Home
  • Gwendolyn Buhr, MD,CMD: Quality Improvement Initiative for Chronic Pain Management in LTC
  • John J. Voytas, MD, FACP, CMD: Validation of an Educational Program for Improved Heart Failure Care
  • Glendo Tangarorang, MD: Prohylaxis for Elderly Pneumonia with Intranasl Xylitol: The PEP-XN Study
  • Marilyn White, MSN, RN: Reducing Dementia-Related Agitation through Nursing Home Staff Support Groups
  • Sandra F. Simmons, PhD: Translating Effective Nutritional Interventions into Daily Nursing Home Practice
