Vol I, Aug `02 Each of the five projects identified at the first annual research conference is moving forward. A more complete report on these projects will be presented in the future; however, there are three specific items that members should be aware of now.
- Regarding the tube feeding study: We have discussed with CMS geographic variation in feeding tube prevalence. Information from these discussions may help selection of pilot project sites/locations.
- The project examining Do-Not-Hospitalize orders and the frequency with which they are not honored will be attempted as an online study to test the feasibility of this methodological approach within the Network. This study will have a relatively rapid turn-around time. Watch your e-mail over the next few weeks to find out how to participate in this study.
- The hospital-to-nursing facility transfer study is teaching us much about how IRBs view the management of both institutional and patient identifiers in the age of HIPAA. We should be able to launch this study well before the November conference.
