Patient Safety Tops List at AMDA Foundation LTC Research Network Conference

The AMDA Foundation LTC Research Network's 2nd Annual Conference, "Patient Safety Issues in Long Term Care," will be held November 2-3, 2002 at the Hotel Adolphus in Dallas, TX. The meeting will feature experts in LTC research, as well as leaders in patient safety and nursing home quality initiatives from AHRQ and CMS. The AMDA Foundation will provide travel and lodging (two nights) expenses for all conference participants.

Goals of the conference include:

Discussion of findings from Network studies initiated in 2001 and how this information will impact quality and safety in LTC;
Identification of new research priorities for the Network, particularly regarding use of performance measures and large data sets to compare Network results with national norms;
Review of the benefits and limitations of the Network's current research and data collection methodologies, and examination of new modes of discovery;
Identification of new principal investigators; and
Training in such areas as ethical issues in LTC research and subject recruitment, and the role of site investigators in educating institutional review boards on research issues in LTC including human subject protection and privacy.

A Clinical Trials Skills Development Workshop will be featured prior to the conference. From October 31 to November 1, attendees can learn ways to improve and expand upon their own clinical research and investigative skills. Participation is limited to 35 members of the AMDA Foundation LTC Research Network, and attendees will be selected on a first- come, first-served basis. Pfizer, Inc. will cover all meals, materials, and meeting costs. However, attendees are responsible for their hotel fees during the workshop.
