On Saturday, November 12, several members of the LTC-QI Partnership project team presented lessons learned in a panel presentation entitled, "Overcoming barriers in long-term care research."
Co-Principal Investigator Dr. David Polakoff opened the discussion by providing a brief history of the project. Currently in Year 4 of the grant cycle funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the LTC-QI Partnership is a four-year project to examine the feasibility and success of pain and pressure ulcer clinical practice guideline implementation in 50 nursing homes in six states. In particular, Dr. Polakoff highlighted the state and national partnerships the project team formed.
As the first large, multi-year research project undertaken by the Research Network, the LTC-QI Partnership faced unique challenges in creating appropriate policies and procedures, hiring staff, and otherwise creating infrastructure to ensure the project's success. Now that this infrastructure is in place, Dr. Polakoff said, future Research Network projects will benefit by using existing infrastructure. |
