The LTC-QI Partnership’s no-cost extension year will end on September 30, 2007. Below is a summary of progress to date and projected activities for the next six months:

Participating Nursing Homes

All nursing homes have completed their participation in the LTC-QI Partnership. During their 15 months in the project, each nursing home:
  • Implemented its assigned clinical practice guideline (CPG); and
  • Collected process of care data three.
Data collection for the LTC-QI Partnership is complete, and we are currently moving into the data analysis phase of the project.

Data Analysis

Preliminary analysis indicates that:
  • 20 nursing homes submitted data for the 10 pressure ulcer process measures; and
  • 17 homes submitted data for the eight pain process measures.
The LTC-QI Partnership’s analyst, Kristen Gurba at Quality Partners of Rhode Island, is calculating the 18 process measures. The project team will examine:
  • Pre- and post-intervention process measures for all facilities;
  • Pre- and post-intervention quality measure scores for all facilities; and
  • Improvement for nursing homes assigned to each clinical topic, as compared to the control homes (those assigned to the other topic).
We will also conduct statistical tests to evaluate the impact of our intervention.

Dissemination

We recently submitted a manuscript to JAMDA describing the recruitment barriers we experienced with the LTC-QI Partnership, as well as our team’s suggestions for how to
overcome these barriers with future projects.

In addition to the recruitment barriers manuscript, project results will form the basis of our final report to AHRQ—as well as an upcoming manuscript and two e-Newsletters (see “Our Last Issues,” right).

Other dissemination efforts will include sharing results at national conferences and identifying a model, based on lessons learned, for spreading adoption of the CPGs. Next Steps Our survey last fall indicated that the majority of National Quality Coalition (NQC) members are interested in continuing to partner with the AMDA Foundation to identify important long-term care research topics and goals.

AMDA Foundation staff are actively moving forward to transition the NQC from a project-specific entity to an advisory board. An upcoming e-Newsletter will further this goal.
