About the Research Network Conference PDF Print E-mail
The AMDA Foundation Long Term Care Research Network holds two conferences each year, one in the fall and one in the spring, in conjunction with the AMDA Annual Symposium.

The 2008 Fall Conference "Quality Improvement as Research: Improving Quality in Long Term Care" is open to all health care practitioners who would like to participate in educational opportunities on topics such as Quality Indicator process improvements and other topics that would be beneficial to both the experienced and novice researcher in the long term care arena. The scheduled keynote speaker is Paul McGann, MD, MS, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Office of Clinical Standards & Quality, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Additional presenters will represent physicians, various profession/specialties, and other members of the interdisciplinary team who are involved in QI at the facility level. The conference also provides an opportunity for attendees to interact and network face to face with their peers.

Additionally, on Friday evening there will be An Interactive Scientific Exhibit: A Real Life Experience in Osteoporosis presented by Procter and Gamble Pharmaceuticals. The Scientific Exhibit is a forum for interactive scientific exchange on current information on Osteoporosis. While the exhibit is fun and interactive, it also contains high-level scientific information. The posters and information present are only from publications in peer reviewed journals or abstracts from national meetings. Each station is manned by a PhD, MD, or Pharm D and is meant to be an interactive learning experience. Topics Presented include:
  • Hands-on Bone Strength – this include models of fragile bones to break/bend and rods to show different material strength properties. There are also models of struts to demonstrate strength and fragility.
  • A 3-D theater to look at microarchitecture of bone and how molecules fit to make a cellular effect.
  • Hands-on station on how fractures impact the quality of life of patients with osteoporosis.
  • Personalized risk of fracture assessment (what will your risk be over the next 5 years).
  • Up-to-date information regarding the need for education of patients and care-givers about calcium and vitamin D.
This fun, interactive session will provide you with the opportunity to discuss all aspects of the disease and its treatment as well as provide you with a variety of tools to help educate your patients on osteoporosis and fracture prevention.
