Vol XXXIII, Jan '08
The AMDA Foundation Art Auction, a new but popular tradition at the organization’s Annual Symposium, will take on a new look this year. Instead of the one-time event during which paid attendees at a formal reception can bid on artwork and other items, bidding will take place throughout the meeting at the Foundation booth. Different items will be featured each day, and a silent auction will enable bidding over a prolonged period of time. “This new format will give AMDA members and other supporters of the Foundation a greater opportunity to view and bid on artwork and other items,” says Executive Director Gwendolyn Maddox. “The quality and variety of items will remain the same, but we wanted to give more people a chance to be part of this important event.”

Items will be available for viewing and bidding from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Thursday and Friday, and 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday. Approximately 10 pieces will be on display each day. Each day’s winners will be posted by the following morning.

As in the past, physicians and photographers Jeffrey Levine, MD, CMD, and Mario Cornacchione, DO, CMD, have donated their works to the auction (see article below). Additionally, Jeffrey Kerr, DO, CMD, has given a piece of beautiful stained glass, suitable for hanging; and several nursing facilities have donated works of art created by their residents. For those who want more practical items, baby quilts, handmade jewelry, and other pieces that are functional and beautiful will be on the auction block. To preview a few of the items click here.

There is still time to donate to the art auction. If you have a piece of art or other item you would like to contribute—or if your facility would like to donate resident works—contact Chris Danihel at 410-992-3134 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
