Benefits and Requirements


AMDA Foundation is committed to the Futures Program, which is a program designed to expose residents and fellows to numerous career opportunities available in long term care and to provide other benefits. Considerable effort will be expended by AMDA Foundation to ensure success of this valuable program. Residents and fellows accepted into the program will therefore be required to fulfill certain obligations.

All participants, upon Acceptance into the AMDA Foundation Futures Program will receive the following Benefits and Requirements:

  • Benefit: One year AMDA membership beginning March 2011. Enjoy the monthly JAMDA subscription and other benefits of being an AMDA member.

  • Benefit: Opportunity to participate in a mentoring program. Participants will have networking opportunity with our AMDA membership to make informed decisions about a career in long term care.

  • Benefit: Admission to the AMDA Foundation Futures Program, March 24, 2011.
    Requirement: Attendance at this all-day event is required. Futures participants may not attend the Long Term Care Medicine - 2011 (formerly called the AMDA Symposium) events that day as this program was specifically tailored for the Futures participants.

  • Benefit: Registration to the the Long Term Care Medicine - 2011 (formerly called the AMDA Symposium), March 25-27, 2011.
    Requirement: Daily attendance at the symposium is required. There will be a few required events; otherwise, the participant can choose the sessions he/she wishes to attend.

    In addition to the Benefits and Requirements listed above, participants who receive a full award will also receive:

  • Benefit: Transportation to and from the AMDA Annual Symposium.
    Requirement: The Futures participant must fly in March 23rd, arriving no later than 6:00 p.m. and leaving no sooner than Sunday, March 27th at 12:00 p.m. The ticket stipend is $450. Any flight prices greater than this amount must be approved by an AMDA Foundation staff member. Please see AMDA Foundation Travel Policy for further details.

  • Benefit: Hotel accommodations for four nights, March 23-27, 2011, to be shared with another Futures participant.
    Requirement: A Travel Confirmation form included with the acceptance letter will need to be sent back immediately so symposium registration and hotel arrangements can be made. Rooms will be assigned upon gender and geographic location. If participant requires private accommodations, AMDA Foundation will provide two nights lodging and participant will be responsible for additional nights.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE ARE A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF FULL AWARDS AVAILABLE. Please speak with your program director about covering the cost of transportation and lodging for this conference.

Acceptance letters will be sent by December 17, 2010. Please do not make any travel arrangements until notified of acceptance. Please note that Futures participants will be responsible for ground transportation to/from the symposium as well as any food costs incurred at the symposium (breakfast and lunch provided at the Futures Program).

Cancellation after acceptance into this program will be subject to review by AMDA Foundation Futures Committee. Participant may be responsible for any expenses incurred on behalf of the participant, including but not limited to transportation and housing, and may not be eligible to receive AMDA membership benefits. AMDA Foundation Futures Committee reserves the right to deny future participation for those who cancel after being accepted into the program.

AMDA Foundation Futures Program Travel Policy



Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to ensure consistent procedures among Futures participants traveling on behalf of AMDA Foundation. This policy applies only to participants whose expenses are being paid by the AMDA Foundation; it does not apply to those whose expenses are being paid by another organization or by the traveler him or herself.

The guiding principles are:

  • Futures participants will be reimbursed for legitimate, reasonable travel expenses when directly related or pertaining to the Futures Program based on established allowances in this policy.
  • Participants are expected to be conscientious in their use of AMDA Foundation funds and travel by economical and efficient means.
Statement of Policy
  1. All travel arrangements, including all changes and cancellations of travel arrangements, can be made directly by the Futures participant. All flight changes and cancellation fees will be the responsibility of the Futures participant.
  2. The lowest available airfare shall be sought when booking. All travelers are expected to use economy class.
  3. If location of conference is within driving distance of participant, participant will be reimbursed for mileage (federal rate) and parking fees.
  4. If given a full award, the AMDA Foundation will reimburse participant for travel only. LTC Medicine-2011 symposium registration will be paid directly by AMDA Foundation.
  5. AMDA Foundation will make the hotel accommodations. Rooms will be assigned upon gender and geographic location. If participant requires private accommodations, AMDA Foundation will provide two nights hotel accommodations and participant will be responsible for additional nights.
  6. Futures participants will be responsible for the costs of ground transportation to/from symposium as well as any food costs (food and beverage will be provided at Futures Program).
  7. Cancellation after acceptance into this program will be subject to review by AMDA Foundation Futures Committee. Participant may be responsible for any expenses incurred on behalf of the participant, including but not limited to transportation and housing, and may not be eligible to receive AMDA membership benefits. AMDA Foundation Futures Committee reserves the right to deny future participation for those who cancel after being accepted into the program. The institution’s program director of the participant will also be notified of participant’s cancellation.
  8. Participant must submit travel expense statement, with all required information, to AMDA Foundation within one month of completion of the trip, unless a longer delay is approved by the Futures Committee. Every effort will be made to reimburse participants within ten business days of receipt of completed expense statement.

AMDA Foundation Futures Program Cancellation Policy


Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to provide a cancellation procedure for Futures participants, should a cancellation be necessary. This policy applies only to participants who have been accepted into the AMDA Foundation Futures Program.

Statement of Policy
  • If a Futures participant would have to decline or withdraw from participation in AMDA Foundation Futures Program, AMDA Foundation must be notified immediately by phone and in writing. The institution’s program director of the participant will also be notified of participant’s cancellation.
  • Cancellation after acceptance into this program will be subject to review by AMDA Foundation Futures Committee. If committee determines cancellation to be unreasonable, participant may be responsible for any expenses incurred on behalf of the participant, including but not limited to transportation and housing, and may not be eligible to receive AMDA membership benefits. AMDA Foundation Futures Committee reserves the right to deny future participation for those who cancel after being accepted into the program.
  • If a Futures participant would have to decline or withdraw from participation, a candidate from the waiting list may be selected to take their place.
