Vol XXXVI, Oct '08
The AMDA Foundation Fall Research Network Conference, set for November 14-16 at the Sheraton Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD, will focus on “Improving Quality in Long Term Care: Quality Improvement as Research.” The program will feature nationally known experts sharing their experiences with QI research and their tips and suggestions for people who want to pursue studies in this area. For the first time, the conference is open to a broad group of practitioners, academicians, and caregivers beyond Network membership.

“We expect that this conference will bring great value to Research Network members and other stakeholders—including directors of nursing, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants--interested in long term care research,” says Network Director Stefan Gravenstein, MD, MPH, CMD, FACP. “The program will demonstrate how some of the simple tools we use for research can be applied to quality improvement. Participants will learn that research tools are useful in everyday QI and have an opportunity to think critically about how we improve quality and use those tools to report successes to our peers,” notes Dr. Gravenstein.

The program will begin on Friday night with a Keynote address by Paul McGann, MD, MS, Deputy Chief Medical Officer in the Office of Clinical Standards and Quality at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Dr. McGann will talk about “From Practice to Research: Leading the Health Care Team in Quality Improvement.” Two other topics from conference sessions are discussed in articles below. The full conference agenda is available here.

It is not too late to plan your attendance at this important conference. You may register online here.
