Auction Contribution Brings Satisfaction to Residents PDF Print E-mail

Vol XXXVIII, Apr '09
One of the most beautiful and inspiring paintings in the Art at the Wall silent auction was “Colorado Rocky Mountain Blue,” a work by residents of the Rowan Community in Colorado. The facility residents, under the guidance of Director of Volunteers Marion Blado, produced a mural specifically for the auction. This year, says Blado, “We looked at many photographs of the Rockies, and the residents chose elements they particularly liked to create the painting.”

Blado explains, “Several of our residents have discovered their artistic talents for the first time in their lives through such projects; and they feel empowered by the chance to show their new found skills. Especially for people who have experienced a reduction in their ability to cope on their own, this access to a new area of communication and personal satisfaction is very powerful.”

Her residents welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the Foundation’s auction, she notes. Blado says, “They are most excited about the chance to raise money to aid others. For those who are living in a nursing facility, being largely dependent on others for much of their daily care, the opportunity to reach out and contribute to making a difference in someone else’s life is exciting and rewarding.”
