Meet Monet, a soft coated Wheaten Terrier, and a true Caring Canine.

Monet celebrated her 10th birthday on New Years Day, 2009. Her first job as a show dog was unsuccessful, but her second profession as a certified Pet Therapy Dog has indeed been her calling!

In June, 2001, Monet was certified by the Miami Valley Pet Therapy Association and the Delta Society, and started visiting residents at the Maria Joseph Nursing and Rehab Center in October of that same year. Monet formally left the association in 2004, but when our resident’s heard that “their” dog was retiring, they asked for her to return, just for them.

The residents and staff know that Monet is a truly gifted and blessed friend. If a resident is ill or worried, she seeks them out, and will sit and wait at the door until she is allowed to visit. Monet walks through our facility, focused on the path she routinely takes, touching those in need and offering comfort and an occasion special kiss.

Our residents feel Monet is special and has a magic coat. She invites each of “her” residents and staff to touch and pet and rub all of their worries and cares onto her during their visit. After her work is completed, Monet leaves the building to go home, and the first action is to shake and shake and shake, releasing all of the troubles and worries she has collected on her visit, into the air to be swept away into the clouds.

Maria Joseph Center has been truly blessed to share time with this wonderful Caring Canine, named Monet.
