What Is A Therapy Dog ? A "Healing Hound" is a dog that likes to bring joy and happiness to humans. He or she does not have to be particularly pretty or smart, large or small. They do not have to do tricks, sit, come or stay. All it takes to become a " Healing Hound" is to be clean, polite, and love to make people happy. Brasil is a three year old whippet, a member of the greyhound family weighing just 27 pounds. He is Delta trained and certified and has been visiting nursing homes and hospitals for over two years in Fairfield County. He has passed the 1000 hour mark at Stamford Hospital. Visitations are made to Cardiology, Rehab, Pediatrics, Psychiatrics, Post-Op and Neurosurgery.

He has been visiting Courtland Gardens in Stamford CT every Thursday for over a year as arranged by Cheryl Croce, Recreation Director of the facility. He is a familiar face at special events when Cheryl asks him to attend. Brasil is always a welcome visitor at Courtland Gardens as he moves from room to room for those who are bedridden and through the common rooms on all four floors of the facility.

He is the current "Therapy Dog of the Year" recognized nationally by The Planetree Hospital Association at their annual convention in Chicago and has appeared on Cablevision Channel 12. He was highlighted in the September issue of The Fairfield County Magazine.

Thank you for letting us share our story with your audience in the AMDA Foundation.
