Hana, Regina Health Center | Hana, Regina Health Center |

Hana, our nominee for the Caring Canines calendar project, is named after a Hawaiian Island. It is a small but beautiful island where people go to find peace. Hana, the dog, is a sweet, unassuming little long-haired dachshund. Her short, stubby legs hold an Angel's heart inside a scruffy pint sized body.
![]() Hana, Regina Health Center While it is true that Hana never jumped in water to save someone, or pulled them out of a smoke filled room, or even barked until a disaster was averted.....she HAS jumped onto staff and resident's laps, helped them to transcend their sadness and exchanged joy from sorrow. Hana, a registered therapy dog, comes to Regina Health Center three times a week. Regina Health Center is an assisted living, short term rehab and long term nursing facility located in Richfield, Ohio whose mission is to care for the religious, clergy and lay persons seeking a God-centered environment. From the moment the residents and staff met her, Hana has brightened their lives. St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, is know for the words, "Make me an instrument of thy peace." Hana is that instrument. Holding her and feeling her warmth and energy gives our residents and staff peace. Watching her interact with the residents brings comfort in even the most difficult days. Her owner, Bill Behrend, tells us that Hana gives so much of herself to anyone who needs her, that she collapses and sleeps for hours after they return from their visit to our facility. She makes a positive contribution to the residents and staff at Regina Health Center. She does make a difference.
