Casey, Hayes, Lexington - Fairfax Nursing Center

Lexington, Casey, Hayes and Chewie may sound like a law firm but they are more powerful than any law firm. They are the canine pets of Fairfax Nursing Center and each day they add joy and love to the residents of the 200 bed facility located in Fairfax City, Virginia.

Lexington and Hayes are rescue dogs that now enjoy the good life of bringing cheer and smiles to the residents, visitors and staff. Casey joined the group from the dog pound while Chewy is the administrator’s pet that is in the facility 5 days a week.

All four enjoy visiting the residents daily, but Lexington serves frequently as the official greeter for visitors by lounging on the front patio, at the front door or on the nearby couch. Although all the pets may roam the facility freely, Lexington is the canine that makes sure he visits each of our four floors daily via the elevator.

Interaction between the canine pets and residents and visitors are frequently mentioned on the satisfaction survey completed by discharged residents. It usually is listed as their favorite thing about the facility. Besides the dogs, the facility also has birds in the solariums and in the rooms of some residents and a feline friend that enjoys curling up in residents' laps.
