Katie, The Lakeland Village

My name is Katie! I was adopted in September 2008 from a Golden Retriever Rescue Group by my best friend and now owner Cheryl. I am 7 years old. I am blind in one eye, but I can still chase squirrels. I live in the country when not at work. I go to work every day with Cheryl. We work in a facility for severely profound and handicapped individuals in the State of Washington called Lakeland. I am an Eden dog for the facility.

I have a great job! My primary focus is to make everyone around me happy which in return makes me happy; therefore my job is awesome. I interact with everyone from the clients/residents to the employees. I dress up for holidays and sometimes just for the fun of it. I deliver balloons for birthdays and retirement parties. I wag my tail continuously and give love to everyone. My belief is that everyone should stop when they see me. After all, I am a special dog that needs to be petted!

My friend Cheryl helps those in wheelchairs touch me to feel how soft I am. I will even at times put my paw on their leg for more attention. You see what’s so special about my job is that I am the only dog that visits my friends. People can call Cheryl and we will go visit people all over the facility. While Cheryl and I are enroute we are often waylaid because we run into people that I need to make feel special and in return they pet me.

I have an excellent life that is filled with love and affection. I can’t imagine a job that would be more fulfilling then the one I have as “The Lakeland Village Eden Dog”.
