Buster, The Meadows at Martins Run

For the past three years, Buster has played a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents living in the Meadows, the long-term care unit at Martins Run.

Martins Run is a not-for-profit continuing care community located in Media, Pa. The mission of the senior living community is to enrich the lives of all residents through a focus on the whole person - mind, body and spirit.

Dr. Rona Pasternak, our psychiatrist and Buster’s owner, brings Buster along every Thursday when she visits our community. From the moment he walks in the door of our “Butterfly Room,” the Tibetan Terrier brightens the day and brings a smile to the faces of the residents. Buster’s presence has a calming effect on the residents, and they are always excited to feed him and spend time with him. Watching Buster play and interact with those around him helps to stimulate valuable memories and reminiscent conversations during both group and one-to-one visits.

Irene Kane, Vice President of Health Services, states that, “as a dog owner and a recreational therapist who has used pet therapy with various populations, I can attest to the value that Buster plays both emotionally and physically in enhancing the lives of our residents.”

According to Activities Coordinator Janet Kaplan, “Regardless of a resident’s disabilities, Buster always gives unconditional love to each and every one of them.”

I hope you’ll consider featuring Buster in your calendar. To us, he truly epitomizes what a “caring canine” should be.
