2012 Caring Canines Calendar Already Creating Buzz PDF Print E-mail

The 2012 Caring Canines calendar, the Foundation’s popular fundraiser, is now available—just in time for holiday gift giving. While the calendar only has been available for a short time, it already has made a tremendous impact. Kathy Megyeri, daughter of a nursing home resident pictured in the 2011 calendar with his special canine friend, Penny, read an article on the calendar’s dedicated website that mentioned this special relationship.

In response, she sent a heartfelt letter and a generous donation to the Foundation. She said, “Somehow, Penny instinctively seemed to know that dad was failing in his last weeks of life because she jumped on his bed, lay beside him, and licked his hands. It was a bond that went beyond my phone calls with dad; he found solace in the memories of his own golden retriever that he owned many years ago….” She concluded, “It is important to get out the word that dogs like Penny are enriching elders’ lives. Even though it’s over a year old, the picture of dad and Penny will always hang over my desk.”
