In the Fall issue of AMDA Reports, Futures alum Milta Little, DO, shared her memories of her first AMDA annual meeting—Long Term Care Medicine—2010 in Long Beach, CA. She recalled, “I was surprised and impressed by how collegial meeting attendees were—everyone was happy to talk and share ideas with me. At the same time, there was such an interesting array of people….It was a large meeting, but it had the feel of a small, comfortable gathering.”

Long Term Care Medicine—2012 is set for March 8-11, 2012, in San Antonio, TX, and AMDA invites you to join Dr. Little and other colleagues for the premiere national meeting for long term care physicians.

Note that there are several innovative interactive programs that require pre-registration and a small fee. These are expected to fill up fast, so make your plans now. For example, if your residents’ mood and behavioral problems are keeping you awake at night, you won’t want to miss a special day-long workshop on “Navigating Mood and Behavioral Challenges in Long Term Care: Strategies for Optimal Outcomes.” Scheduled for Thursday, March 8, 2012, from 8 am to 5 pm, this interactive workshop will address management decisions to optimize patient outcomes when selecting therapies to address behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) and depression. The dynamic program will include audience participation through the use of an audience response system (ARS) and breakout discussion. Relevant handouts and take-home tools will include AMDA clinical practice guidelines. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to submit personal case examples for discussion.
